On Thursday 24th May 2018, the North West Cancer Research Centre@UoL, UGC-UKIERI and N3CR held a joint workshop on the ‘Use of the Chick Embryo Model in Cancer’ in the LBIH Seminar Room, WHD Building.
The event welcomed UKIERI collaborators from the University Hyderabad, Prof Geeta Vemuganti and her new PhD student, Mr Narayana Revu Venkate Lakshmi, who provided an overview of retinoblastoma, stem cells, and the use of the chick embryo to study the disease.
Dr Anne Hermann (IIB, UoL) discussed the chick embryo model in cancer research: from standard protocols to new clinically relevant discoveries, Dr Jodi Alexander (ITM, UoL) highlighted the use of the chick embryo in Uveal Melanoma. Finally, Dr Thomas Butts (UoL) provided an overview on the use the chick as a model to study brain development, with Prof Coupland summing up.
