Dr Sarah Lake from the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine has been awarded the 2013 “Fight for Sight” Early Career Investigator Award. The award will fund Sarah’s research into “druggable” targets for the orphan tumour, uveal (intraocular) melanoma, a strategic focus area for the Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre.
The fellowship funds Sarah’s research for 3-years and will allow her to build her own independent research group within the umbrella of the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Research Group (LOORG).
Commenting on her award, Sarah said: “I am thrilled to receive this award from “Fight for Sight”. The fellowship will allow me to pursue this important, and challenging, area of research for uveal melanoma patients, for whom there is currently no effective therapy for metastatic disease.”
The LOORG team are extremely proud of Sarah, knowing that this award is thoroughly deserved, and wish her all the best with her endeavours.
