On Wednesday 8th February 2012, Prof. Sarah Coupland, Prof. Bertil Damato, Dr Helen Kalirai, Dr Sarah Lake and Dr Martina Angi had the honour and privilege of attending Liverpool Town Hall, to celebrate the presentation of the'Freedom of the City’ award to the Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre.
Over 160 guests attended the evening, which included doctors, nurses, scientists, cancer survivors, supporters, the Lord Mayor and representatives of Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs. The Centre was particularly praised for its focus on tackling cancer in low income communities, research, and close links with Liverpool, Merseyside and Cheshire.
The Freedom of the City was awarded in recognition of the Liverpool CR-UK Centres tireless work to find a cure for cancer and is the highest honour Liverpool can bestow.
The Liverpool CR-UK Centre works in partnership with Cancer Research UK, Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust, University of Liverpool and Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust.
