The Liverpool Tissue Bank (LTB) celebrated its 20th Anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the LTB organised an anniversary symposium on the afternoon of November 21st, 2013, at the Liverpool Cancer Research
Centre (CRC).
Professor Sarah Coupland and Dr Helen Kalirai were invited to speak at the event, with Prof Coupland providing an historical overview of the LTB service, and Dr Kalirai speaking specifically about the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Biobank.
The Liverpool Tissue Bank was established at the University of Liverpool in 1993, following a donation of nearly £2.2 million from Candis Club.
On average, the LTB collects biosamples from 250-300 donors per year and and has collected samples from just over 5300 donors. In total there are over
45,000 samples of paraffin wax embedded and frozen material. The largest
collections are of breast, colorectal and pancreatic tissue.
