The prestigious lecture, held at the Arena & Convention Centre Liverpool, is highly regarded amongst peers on an international level. The award was presented in recognition of Professor Damato’s pioneering treatment of ocular melanomas, particularly local resection, brachytherapy with eccentrically-placed ruthenium plaques and proton beam radiotherapy of iris melanoma; in addition to the genetic typing of uveal melanomas into routine clinical practice thereby enhancing prognostication.
Professor Damato has received a number of awards in different countries over the years. He has served as Hon Secretary and President of the European Ophthalmic Oncology Group, President of the European Vision and Eye Research Association and President of the International Society of Ocular Oncology. He has published approximately 200 peer reviewed articles and authored or contributed to several textbooks.
