Liverpool Ocular Oncology Molecular Pathology Service
(LOOMPS)

We can help you to estimate the survival prognosis of your patients with uveal melanoma by investigating their tumour for genetic abnormalities.

We do this by performing multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and/or microsatellite analysis (MSA), as appropriate.

MLPA tests 31 gene loci on chromosomes 1p, 3, 6 and 8. This is done using the P027.B1 uveal melanoma kit produced by MRC Holland (www.mlpa.com). This procedure requires at least 100ng DNA at a concentration of 40ng/µl. (link to FAQs)

MSA examines 8 microsatellites on chromosome 3. It is reserved for samples that are inadequate for MLPA but which yield at least 10ng DNA. (link to FAQs)

By integrating chromosome 3 status with histological grade of malignancy and clinical TNM stage, we are able to estimate the 10-year survival probability, also taking the patient’s age and sex into account. This is done using a program we have developed (www.ocularmelanomaonline.com).

Please download our application form and instruction sheet below, which provides information on sample types and volumes, storage conditions and shipping.
